The Landmark Theatre - Stagehouse Expansion
November 17 2011
The Landmark Theatre in Syracuse, New York will have its grand re-opening on November 19th with a performance by legendary comedian Bill Cosby, thanks to the work of Schenectady Steel Co., Inc. (SSCI). The Capital Region steel fabrication company undertook the project, whose scope included an expanded and completely redesigned stagehouse, as well as a newly added third floor, in the Fall of 2010.
Among the many challenges in renovating the historic building was the preservation of the front façade. Since the structural integrity was tied into the existing roof, the expansion and third floor framing had to be placed with the original roof in place. After cutting pass-through holes, ironworkers were able to secure the 83 year old front façade to the newly fabricated steel framework. From there, the original roof could finally be demolished to make way for the decking of the new third floor.
